How is Internet of Things revolutionising lifes of people? | Advantages | IoT series session-2

Hi guys! This is Prabhat and you are on BigForSure. So let's get started!

Welcome everyone to today's IoT discussion, so we'll understand how IoT is really revolutionizing the lives of people. So before starting this session.

First, we have what is IoT, we'll understand what is the Internet of Things is. Then we'll look at various IoT applications and how they are being used in different industries.

Next, we'll understand different IoT architectures. Moving ahead, we'll look at different development boards that are used in IoT projects.

  • IoT: INTERNET Of THINGS

.
Internet of Things in supply chain
The term Internet of Things was coined by Kevin Aston in a presentation to P&G in 1999. He's a co-founder of the MIT auto-ID lab. And he also introduced RFID in the supply chain management domain.

So, he quoted that we need to empower computers within their own means of gathering information,  so that they can see, hear and smell the world for themselves.

Now breaking the Internet of Things into two parts, the Internet and Things. So the internet is basically a  network of networks right? You have various kinds of networks like your public network like your private networks are connected to this internet.  And using this internet, you can go ahead and you can share that information from one place to another globally.

Talking about things, things can be any device with any kind of built-in sensors with the ability to sense and collect data about the environment in which they are operated.

Things are the ones that are connecting the physical world to the digital world right. You have various sensors which are sending data about the environment in which they are operated.

Then you have various sensors I would say Sensors are the nerves of the IoT, your various heat sensors, temperature sensors, humidity sensors, which are sending data about the environment in which they are used, and then go moving ahead.

Those data that they're sending makes, you can make digital use of the data, right. So, talking about the internet of things in general, IoT is an interaction between the physical and digital world using sensors and actuators.

  • HOW IS EXACTLY IOT ADVANTAGEOUS FOR US?

Now, IoT is creating a giant network where all the devices are connected to each other and provides them the capability to interact with each other, this is driving the automation to the next level where the devices will communicate with each other and make decisions on their own without any human intervention.

Basically, the idea of the Internet of Things is to interact, contribute and collaborate between devices and this should be done without any human intervention.  Now, you might be using various smart devices right! like your smartwatches, which is basically monitoring your health conditions like your heart rate.

Smart lights
Then you have various smart lights, in which you can control the intensity of the light and it can also be controlled remotely. Then you have smart cars. So you have various sensors attached to engines, your tires, then your dining wheels.

Then you have GPS sensors, which is continuously sending the data about your location.  So you have various kinds of sensors, which is sending data from a smart car,

and

what do we do with that kind of information right?
We store that information in the cloud or basically the manufacturer stores that information in the cloud and the manufacturer uses a trigger in which the manufacturer finds out whether your engine is in bad condition with that data stored in the cloud.
So that your manufacturer can tell you that you need any repair with us.
Cloud
So  IoT basically will give you a good user experience so you can get your car repaired without any downtime, then your smart meters.

So you can see nowadays your smart meters are saving electricity. They are basically monitoring how your appliances are being used. And based on that they will actually optimize your energy uses.

Then you have a variety of smart air conditioners then you have smart refrigerators, smart televisions, ready to take one more example.

Suppose you have a smart room-temperature sensor, right? So what it does is, it gathers the information about your room temperature and sends the data or you can say that it broadcasts that data.

This data is then used by your smart air conditioner or your smart refrigerator to automatically sense and change their temperatures without any human intervention.

Now, talking about IoT applications in different domains, so, you have first  energy consumption considerations, right? So in energy conservation, let's take a basic example,  energy conservation, once you step out of your smart home, all of the appliances and all of your lights get switched off automatically right.

Then again, talking about energy conservation, you have a smart grid system. So various kinds of energy manufacturers are using smart grid systems.  This smart grid system basically monitors that area which has industrial factories or you can say which has various factories that are consuming the energy at night and suppose there is a place with a residential area which is consuming the energy in the day right.

So, this helps your energy provider to optimize that energy to basically optimize and make the energy available at the right time to the right area. Next, we have smart transport. So, we already discussed smart cars.

Iot devices
Then in smart agriculture, you have humidity sensors, sensors present in your different channels.  What it does, if the humidity of your channel gets low, it automatically tells your pumping system that the humidity of this channel is low.

So, that pumping system can start pumping water and it makes sure that the water is only  delivered to that channel not all the channel. That’s how IoT is basically creating smart solutions. It only provides the water to the right channel  which requires water moving on to his home automation so you have seen lots of devices which are helping you in home automation you have smart devices like smart refrigerator, smart AC.

Nowadays you have smart switches manufactured by Philips, then your Smart Lighting. So all those kinds of devices making your home smarter and smarter then you consider health and fitness so smart watch is just a small example of your health

and fitness how IoT is using your health and fitness.
Smart hospitals
But let's take a very important  example of a hospital which is actually monitoring all the different kinds of ECRs right, Electronic Care Record health of patients,  and then it can actually tell the patient that your heart rate is low or it can actually  send an ambulance to the patient who needs it. So, this kind of solution IoT is building which is health which is based which is basically changing your or you can say revolutionising your life.

CONCLUSION:

In conclusion I would say that IoT will change our life completely, We would be cured by digital nurses, electricity consumption would be reduced, Human Effort in all thing would be reduced almost completely. So that's it for today guys, We will meet you all in next session. For that subscribe to our website, give us your email.
